11+ or 12+ exam while living abroad

Post by T4T »

My family and I moved abroad from Milton Keynes nearly 2 years ago and we're considering our DD sitting this year's 11+. I sent an email to Bucks County Council to enquire about the possiblity and was sent a link to register her but I'm a bit sceptical about it as we haven't really prepared for it.
Has anyone registered their DS or DD for the 11+ while living abroad?

Another option of is to register her for the 12+ instead. Please does anyone know when the 12+ exams are likely to be from 2013 onwards? Any advice on the materials to use for preparing for the 12+ exams?
Many thanks

Welcome to the Forum.

Which schools are you aiming for? Places tend to be restricted for 12+.

I'd go for the 11+ but for choice of schools you will need a local address by November; otherwise you will need to choose a school that tends to be under-subscribed.

Thanks for the reply. Our 1st choice would be AHS and then RL (I understand that they're more stricter than all the other Aylesbury school). We would also consider any of the other GS that's within easy reach of MK that take children from MK.

RLS has the same exam and qualification score at 11+ but has no 'competition' from any nearby GS for places so tends to be over-subscribed.

From abroad the Aylesbury school most likely to allocate a place would be Sir Henry Floyd so you should also look at that; it usually has 12+ places too.

Is your DD at a school following an English curriculum?

Thanks for the reply once again Guest55. I'll look into SHF.

DD's school doesn't follow the English curriculum but I use the Bond books and free materials that I get online with her at home.

Here is information about preparation for the 11plus as it is changing from this year (Bond were not relevant to the old Bucks 11plus and won't be relevant to some of the 12 plus exams where they still use the 21 types of verbal reasoning). I don't know if Bond are relevant to the new test (I suspect not), but this thread will tell you.
