The Tutors Level 3 15 minute tests

Post by KhadijahA-R »

I have decided to give these to my ds as prep for 11+ VR in September. He did paper 1 and paper 2 today and got 100% in both. He has been getting 90% on Walsh, 95% on Guyon. I thought I read somewhere that the level 3 papers were challenging :?: My ds is no genius
Do they get harder, as we work through the papers? Should I skip to paper 11?
If ds gets bored and feels unchallenged, he will make silly mistakes in the actual test, and stop trying at practice tests. I don't want to use up all the 80 minute tests, and really want these to be fillers

I'm not in your area but my DS found the Tutors level 3 relatively straight forward. Somewhere on the thread about DIY VR there is a plea for level 3.5 as the step up to level 4 is quite a good one. We found level 3 good for confidence & speed building.

Thanks for your response Scarymum :).
Do the level 3 papers get harder or stay at the same level?
TIA

From memory they were pretty much the same, but Sally-Anne or Patricia might be able to confirm that.

I'm thinking of mixing up a bit of level 3 and 4, to make some new papers to see if it works.
Hopefully then ds might find them challenging without being too taxing. Especially since I sell them as a break from the 80/85 question papers.

That was my tactic too - and we could fit a quick one in before school some days

I accidentally gave my ds level 4 no.6 when I meant to go through it myself. He picked it up from the level 3's I had taken out intending to go through the '4' with him, and tried it. He got 60% so not too bad, he did surprisingly well on the vocab but I don't think I will be giving him a level 4 to complete alone.
