Applications per space

Post by Brum Mum »

Hi,

Is it detailed anywhere how many applications were made for each space at Alcester Grammar and KES?

Many thanks

Sorry - further question.

That's quite a reduction in applications per space - I guess this is due to the low birth year...does anyone know whether this year is likely to be similar to last or whether we are looking at a return to a higher rate - if that makes sense?!

Thanks again

The reduction is more likely due to people already knowing results (i.e. realising that they have little or no hope of a place) than to birth rate changes, so presumably the numbers will continue more or less at the lower level.

I kind of recall that each Warwickshire region had about 800 children taking 11 plus exam. So about 4 to 5 11 plus exam entries per space at a Grammar school.

Very rough figures, sorry if my vagueness annoys anyone.

There were 1029 from the Southern Region (for 313 places) and 685 from the Eastern Region (for 270 places) taking the exam for 2013 entry.

The Eastern area is quite a lot smaller though - even the outer area is only approximately a 10 mile circle, compared to a 17 mile circle for the Southern area. So the number of grammar places vs the secondary transfer cohort as a whole is quite different for the three different areas.
