CI lists to close?

Post by handbag50 »

I have received an email from County saying that the CI lists will close on 24/7/13 and you have to reapply as a "in year application" if you want to remain in the running for a place at a higher ranked school.

Do any of the mods know if this is new ? I have certainly never heard of it?? do we apply to the school or County?

It is a new thing that was brought in last year. I had to do it as I was on CI lists for primaries which was a slightly more straight forward process I imagine. You just have to fill in a new form and double/triple check that they have received and uploaded it. It may be different now but I couldn't do it online. I would ring the schools direct as well to check if you have to do anything their end.

I think this is a really good idea. There are a lot of people on waiting lists who will not take up the place if they are contacted. So when a place comes available a lot of time is wasted contacting people and waiting to hear back from then. By forcing everyone to reapply only those who really want the place will be on the list. This will make it a lot more realistic and will mean that when a place does come up it can be reallocated the same day. DG

I have had a look at the forms and there is one that needs to be completed by the child's school. As the CI lists don't close untl 24th July, I'm assuming this will be the secondary school we have a place at? Does anyone know if this is correct? If it is correct, then will the current school complete them before end of July or would I need to wait until the start of September. This would mean not being on the list between 24 July to early September. Is this likely to be a problem?

Has to be current school as they need to have knowledge of the child to fill the forms in. It is really important that they are returned in good time so you don't lose the chance of a place at your preferred school. Schools are busy at this time of year so you need to give them as much time as possible to fill in the forms and chase them!

I spoke to our preferred school and they said we should fill in their own in year application
form and that would be enough. Another friend was told she needed to do nothing
and would remain on her schools list unless she requested to be removed from it.

I will fill in the county one to be on the safe side.
I think this will mean that if a place became available we could be contacted by
the school direct... and would therefore not automatically loose the place at the
lower ranking school -- any one know if I am correct?
