A tin of paint costs £6 and will cover 5 square meters of wall.
What is the cost of paint tins for a wall 4.5m and 3m high.

answer is £18.00, but i am getting £16.20 which one is correct and how to do this one.

I think it is 18 because you would have to buy 3 tins at 6 each. They are not allowing you to cost up a fraction of a tin.

area = length x width

Area of first line is 5m2
Area of wall is 4x3.5= 13.5m2

Therefore you need to buy 3 whole tins to cover 13.5m2, hence £18

The question is badly worded as you would need to buy 3 tins irrespective of how much you actually need. So the cost of painting the wall includes your left-over paint as well.
