Re: Top 500 state schools
I think the reason CH Boys is so high is because of this data:
2012 examination results
A-level A*-Bs
91.6%
GCSE A*/A
85.3%
Interestingly, Tudor Grange (arguably the top non-Grammar in the area) has this data:
2012 examination results
GCSE A*/A
41.9%

Re: Top 500 state schools
Apples and pears though; TG has a large proportion of children who aren't A*/A contenders whereas all CHB boys are.
Re: Top 500 state schools
You're absolutely right there Mike1880.
I looked up the results because I have been told on many occasions by parents that TG is 'the same as CH'.
I think it may be better to say that they are different schools with a different mix of pupil ability...

Re: Top 500 state schools
The stats say that TG does an extremely effective job of educating everyone, whatever their ability, so probably not "worse than" but definitely not "the same as". It does make you question the value of league tables though when they're effectively just ranking schools in descending order of academic selection.

These tables are NOT worth the paper they are printed on!
I'm more interested in the progress the children have made. If you select the top 10% you should be at the top and the results in Bucks seem to correlate with the % of children with 3 level 5s on entry.

Re: Top 500 state schools
There isn't an exact correlation here.
Is Wolverhampton Girls' High more selective/more difficult to gain entry to, than CH girls?
Is KE Handsworth more selective/ more difficult to gain entry to, than KE FW?

Re: Top 500 state schools
Can you provide a link to the data so we can see where other hotly discussed schools on the forum feature such as QE Boys and HBS! DG

This is the list of the 'top' 500 state schools in the country.
You need to be a subscriber to see it. If you're not, just tell me the schools' names in full please (many have very similar names!) and I will look them up for you and post their ranking.

Re: Top 500 state schools
I would be interested in the date that these figures were initially printed.
I suspect that there will be a new table shortly now that the 2013 A-level results are available.
