Re: A Level results 2013 from 400 state schools
Thanks - it seems to show again, as in previous years, that by A level there are some very good comprehensives in other parts of the country that outstrip a lot of the kent grammars. With two children still to put through the kent 11 plus it does not fill me with optimism. I do not understand, with tables like this available, why people move into kent for our grammars - with the exception of the handful towards the top of tables like this.
Re: A Level results 2013 from 400 state schools
A percentage of A* to B is a rather narrow reflection of a school as many schools have children who now take four A levels which, if this measure is used, will give a child scoring A*, A*, A*, C as 75%. The top three A levels would be a better indicator.
Re: A Level results 2013 from 400 state schools
Yes, I take your point entirely. However, I don't think the kent grammar school results I am looking at though will be influenced by the four a level phenomenon.
Another reason the comparison could be false is because their results can be greatly influenced by the school's policy as to what grade is required at gcse to carry on a subject to A level. Again, I don't think this is likely to be an issue in my comparison of kent grammars versus top comps. But it could be.

Article states indies results out on 24th August by DT at least
Re: A Level results 2013 from 400 state schools
Some GS require grade Cs at AS to continue to A2.
Some schools withdraw borderline candidates or make them pay for their own exam entry.
Unfortuately without knowing these facts, these tables are pretty meaningless.

Re: A Level results 2013 from 400 state schools
There are a lot of top schools missing as well so its not very reliable as a table.
Personally I am concerned at the "good" comp I am considering for DS2 scoring just 32% when his older brothers grammar gets 92%. We are not in a fully selective area, isnt that low?

In Bucks, only 10 grammar schools are listed - Dr Challoners Girls, Aylesbury Grammar and Burnham Grammar are all missing. I would definitely expect the first two to be well within the top 100, let alone the top 400, and Burnham would surely be in the top 400.
