when university selection, studied school also consider?

Post by Anne_810 »

Hi All,
Appreciate your thoughts on the below please;

If a talented boy works on the same way and gets a same good A/L results from below 3 schools
(1) Langley Grammar school (Same kid, same A/L results)
(2) Tiffin School (Same kid, same A/L results)
(3) QE boys school (Same kid, same A/L results)

Do you think better university is given to the above boy depending on which school he studied?
same question on the other way, when university selection, do you think the studied school also consider?

Thank you
Anne

I would think it makes little difference.

Uni's look at qualifications gained and Personal statement. Some will also interview the candidate and for certain Degree courses the candidate will have to sit an entry exam as well.

If all things are equal across each, the chance is exactly the same.

I think some universities do look at the school and its exam results. For example the Cambridge website says:

'Cambridge admissions tutors are provided with publicly-available school performance data to help them contextualise educational achievement when considering applications'

and

'Oxford encourages teachers to include details of any special circumstances or other relevant information in the main UCAS application. Oxford also uses publicly available information to indicate those applicants who may have experienced educational or socio-economic disadvantages'

but I would agree with BW that for the three schools you have listed it would make little difference, if any.
