Re: Nonsuch Tuition in Ofsted report
Tuition is not uncommon at other grammar schools.
It probably says more about the parents than the teaching staff. Many want to see their children to go into medicine, veterinary science or other competitive fields. Those parents are acutely aware that students need a string of A* grades and cannot risk a drop in any subject grade at any stage.

That sounds likely. Reading the report in full, parents (and some staff) also complained about the management, behaviour in the school and governors. I don't recall any other Ofsted report mentioning so many niggles from parents and these must only be niggles from a small minority since Ofsted obviously didn't agree.Could it be possible, that some Nonsuch parents have higher expectations and are not averse to vocalising their disatisfaction

Re: Nonsuch Tuition in Ofsted report
I think that some of the adverse comments may have their origin in the way the previous head was removed suddenly and her departure has never been explained. She was held in high esteem by parents. The Deputy had also decided to leave for Wallington High few months ago. Was there dissatisfaction with the Governors or among the senior staff? Looks like some of these issues came up during Ofsted inspection.

The detailed parents' response can be seen at following link.
http://parentview.ofsted.gov.uk/parent- ... 40/current" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
According to this survey, nearly quarter of the parents would not recommend this school to other parents, even though they are mostly satisfied with the teaching and behavior aspects.

tiffinboys: Is that feedback genuinely from Nonsuch parents or can anybody log on and register a vote? It says 26% would not recommend the school?
Maybe it is a short term problem though - senior staff leaving is always unsettling.

I find that to be a strange anomaly too. On the one hand, parents are very satisfied with the teaching & pupil behavioral aspects and on the other hand, a large number unable to recommend the school to other parents. Perhaps, it has to do with dissuading the competition.. Or may be, the manner in which school communicates with the parents.loopylou wrote:tiffinboys: Is that feedback genuinely from Nonsuch parents or can anybody log on and register a vote? Locally, this school is held in very high steem. I know that for vast majority of girls in Kingston/Richmond and beyond, Nonsuch always appear on CAF as their choice, just after Tiffin Girls.
Re: Nonsuch Tuition in Ofsted report
Having looked again at the link, it represents the views of only 116 parents.
As with all such things, those who are happy tend to stay quiet and those who are unhappy feel more inclined to make their views known. This probably accounts for the negative feedback. One could assume the other 1000+ parents are fairly happy with the school.

Well yes and no. In statistical terms, 116 is a good enough sample out of what 1000+ (??) parents.
It could be said that 1000+ didn't express dissatisfaction. Or as some would put it, 1000+ could not support their school in this instance. Classic case of footwear sale reps in Africa.

The other thing I wondered about was the reference to
"Two HMI visited the school on 11 September 2013 to gather additional evidence."
Is that unusual? Do inspectors normally return 2 months after an Ofsted visit to gather more evidence and if so why might that be? Reports for other schools seem to be compiled and published more quickly.
