Loose covers without breaking the bank, anyone?

Post by Marylou »

We want to re-cover rather than replace our 20-year old living room furniture (Multiyork), as it's in good condition apart from the loose covers. Does anyone know a way of doing this without having to take out a second mortgage? :shock: Not keen on Plumbs as we used them before for something else and were not impressed as the fabric they used wasn't the same as the one we'd asked for. Haven't really got the time, skills or space to do it myself. I know that they are not the easiest things to make but surely it's not right that a set of loose covers should cost almost as much as the furniture itself? :shock: If anyone knows of any reasonably-priced firms operating online and/or in East Midlands/North Bucks area, please could you let us know? Thanks! :)

Good grief - have we finally hit upon the one subject to stump the fount of all knowledge that is EPE? :shock: :lol:

Off to Multiyork today in a (probably vain) attempt to drive a hard bargain... :roll:

Good Luck ML! Did try but seems my favourite soft furnishing shop (Fine furnishing - Lincolnshire) is no more :? - they used to do ace curtains from phone ordering and also, I understand, loose covers.

Did also fond this one who do copy covers .... http://www.loosecovers.info/index.cfm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks HM - I've actually got a query outstanding with that company, they look promising...

As for the other firm - I think it's such a shame when shops like this provide a really good service but then end up closing down. Sign of the times, I suppose! :(

Mary Lou do please let me know how you get on with your search. Our loose covers are in tatters after the ravages of two children growing up crawling, jumping and eating stuff all over them, but the sofas underneath are really sturdy. Like you I want to replace the covers rather than start from scratch. Thanks, Peridot

They do great loose covers - have particulalry specialised in Ikea sofas but I believe they also do others. I can personally vouch for the company! They also have great fabrics.

Good luck!

Having looked into it, we eventually replaced our Multiyork with another expensive suite from John Lewis. There wasn't much in the cost.

Our Multiyork has a new home, the summer house. The pattern is/was cream with flowers (sounds disgusting but looked nice once, about twenty years ago before kids) and the kids love it. I couldn't bring myself to throw it away. A shame it would have cost so much to re-cover.

Good luck!

We have multiyork sofas too and dh seems to think the outlet shops might sell them...he seems to remember being told they get left with quite a few loose covers , which were spurned by customers who said they weren't the colour they were expecting etc.

Thanks for the various suggestions, everyone. We have a few irons in the fire at the moment and will let you know how we get on. The best deal so far has (believe it or not) been offered by Multiyork, and as we paid next to nothing for the chairs themselves then we're tempted to go with them.
