Hi Ed's Mum, Naga et al!
May = 31
June = 30 (Last but one 30 day month)
July = 31
Aug = 31
Sept = 30 (Last 30 day month)
Oct = 31 = THIS MONTH
Nov = 30 (Next month after this has thirty days)
The evil bit in that question is the use of "the last but", which is a very hard concept for children to grasp.
If I am right Naga that question comes from a Susan Daughtrey paper?
It is horribly familiar somehow!

April = 30 (Last but two 30 day month)What month will it be now if the next month after this has thirty days and the last thirty day month but two was April.

I make it October, its as with most 'problem' questions, notes have to be made. Write out the months of the year followed by the number of days. Process of elimination.
1] The next month to October is November with 30 days.
2] The last 30 day month but 2 [that but makes it the third, not the second, difficult concept for children] Prior to October the months with 30 days are Sept, June and then April.
