Likely cut off for CRGS 2014

Post by su1920 »

Any thoughts on likely cut off for CRGS for 2014 - I see some high scores and not sure whether the initial cut off is likely to be around 245 or more?

Any thoughts? I see initial cut off for 2013 was 239/240?

Hello there, I think you might mean 345 not 245 ?

The results posted on this website are only a sample so don't decide not to try. What result did your DD achieve ?

There is a posting of the exact last score offered last year on this wonderful forum.

Thanks. Does that mean 350 is enoguh - although it's in the green zone not sure if this is good enough for a place at CRGS

Given all the info from CSSE and collated scores on here I would be pretty confident.
Nothing can be sure at this point but come allocation day you should be shocked not to get a place rather than the other way around.

I analysed previous scores prior to the results coming out. In my head, if DS had scored 350 we were in at CRGS. 344 was offered on March 1st last year so I don't see it as being a huge problem.

You have to remember that there can be 2-6 boys on each point in the 340s (aang can be more precise at this point) - so there would be a huge difference in results from last years to this for 350 not to make it on offer day when 340 did this year.
Anything can happen of-course, but try to spare yourself the months of torture that I endured.

A score of 350 would have been comfortably in last year. I know how you feel though, my DS has a score of 354 and I have to remind myself to feel confident about that score but I have moments of doubt. There would have been large numbers of boys who got in who had scores in the 340's last year I think successful scores from 390's to 337 would not have followed a normal distribution.

I have just started the DIY route with DD and its a welcome distraction from thinking about whether or not my son has got in. I'm trying not to think about my DS's score anymore. It's a bit strange starting at the beginning again with simple spellings, grammar and telling the time but its a relief after all that VR which my son was much better at than me. :)

350+ will get an offer from CRGS comfortably.

I find it quite strange that people with high scores on various threads seem so worried this year. Even if you ignore the statistical model based on the mean and standard deviation figures provided by CSSE, and just look at last year's cut-offs and waiting lists and eventual offers, you'll see that between 340 and 345 there will be many scores separated by 0.1 or 0.2. You can see from KB's repost of last year's scores that 339.175 was second on the waiting list on allocation day, and 338.269 was tenth, meaning there were eight scores separated by less than 1 point.

There will be at least 30 parents who have scores between 340 and 345 who have more legitimate concerns to be slightly worried as some of these people will likely be on the initial waiting list. If you are 5 points clear of this area, and assume a worse case scenario with scores every 0.2 points, then that means you still have 25 applicants with scores between 345 and 350.

As it happens, I think the CSSE guidance sheet figures for CRGS that 350 is green cut-off and 340 is yellow cut-off, seems entirely reasonable. There really is no need to be concerned with a score of 350 and above for CRGS.
