Coombe girls - can it be an alternative for grammars?
DD still has TGS round 2 and some indies. Never have considered non grammar state schools but heard that Coombe girls have some functioning streaming policies and some good univ destinations. Would you put Coombe girls in CAF right after grammars? How good is it compared.with other girls comps? Thank you.

Coombe Girls is certainly improving. They do streaming and their top set has potential to do as well as any grammar school. Good to have it as one of the preferences, if you are local to this school.
I think that CG has better results and reputation than other girls comp Tolworth Girls, but that too is improving.

I am not sure why they would only be described as improving?
CGS is an outstanding school with a well deserved, excellent reputation. It has been very well regarded in fact going back years and years.
They stream by ability and top group girls achieve very high results. Of course, as a whole school, they cannot compete with grammar school grades because they also have a middle and lower ability stream feeding into the results too. CGS does however seem to get the best from the girls who are at the higher ability end of the spectrum and is seen as particularly geared up to that.

Improving in the sense that the results are showing improvement year after year.
Coombe Girls School
GCSE A*-C
2010: 69%
2011: 72
2012: 75
A level Avg points
2010: 727.6
2011: 716.4
2012: 718.3
On the scale of improving, maintaining or deteriorating, I think that the above results show improvement. Obviously, it will not match grammars but certainly is doing quite well as the above figures show.
