Remembrance Day

Post by Blitz »

This is a link to the assembly transcript the Headteacher of KEGS in Essex gave to his students last year.

Very moving and poignant. Do read.

Very lovely.

Our Rememberance Day is the same every year, the only thing that changes is the field that we are standing in. It is a rugby day and at 11 a.m. all of the boys without exception line up on their pitches and mark the silence - the current young generation honouring the older generation and those that have made the ultimate sacrifice for them. Every year I shed a tear, it is so moving to see these young boys so full of life paying their tribute. This year was particularly beautiful, Sevenoaks RFC is surrounded by Knole Park, the trees were stunning, the sun was shining, the sky was brilliant blue and the only thing that could be heard was the birds.

Well done to all the boys of SRFC and the visiting teams.

It is the same words which choke me every time, and they serve well for remembering anyone who has died, whether in the obscenities of conflict and war or in less tragic ways.

'They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.'

Not our regular pastor today and he didn't say this. It didn't feel right.
