Question about school placement : CAF
Hi would like some advice
If dd does not get 1st choice school (grammar), and is offered a place at choice no.2 (grammar), but would prefer choice-3 (local state), can we turn down choice-2 and ask for choice no.3 instead... (what would happen if we turn down choice 2?)
thanks in advance

Accept the place being offered (choice-2) so that your DD is not without a place; and Opt to go on the waiting list of the choice - 3. You will need to request the School choice no. 3 and your LA to go on their waiting list.mummyjee wrote:Hi would like some advice

Re: Question about school placement : CAF
The key is to act quickly... after offer day there is 2 weeks during which people can mull their options (and many will have dilemas due to possible distance reasons, independent school choices etc). If you want any option that has not been offered then you must join the waiting list (you cannot change your CAF now; it is set in stone) and wait in line and hope that people who have offered that option drop out during the 2 week period. There will be some movement... but it will be small.
In Kingston LEA the community school waitlists are distance prioritised (after sibling etc criteria). The grammar schools have different rules... TGS being ordered by the result etc.

Re: Question about school placement : CAF
You call your LEA's admissions team. For Kingston this number is on the web page at http://www.kingston.gov.uk/info/200222/ ... ber_intake
You can call them before March 3rd and they will explain the process; after March 3rd they will be very busy... some people will have no chosen school so they will have some very high priority cases to sort out.

I agree with Ladymuck and SVE, local comps usually have a very small 'local' catchment so if you live quite close you may be in with a good chance on the school'a waiting list so don't give up hope. Do you live close to the comp your DD is interested in?
Re: Question about school placement : CAF
not in catchment for any school, the closest is approx 700 metres door to door, however stats show, intake didnt go beyond 500 metres for in catchment applicants!

Is that for a secondary school? That's terrible.mummyjee wrote:however stats show, intake didnt go beyond 500 metres for in catchment applicants!
