Composition tasks - word count
Dear all,
This is just to find out how long the composition tasks are expected to be.
How many words are the children expected to write in the 30 mins they get to do the composition.
I know that the length might not be as important as the quality, but there will still be some kind of guidance on the quantity, too.
THANK YOU

You need to be a bit more specific than that! Which schools are you applying for? I would recommend three or four paragraphs. No more than a page of A4 and half a page shoudl do it. It is so very important to stay focused on the task in hand and not get carried away. You should be able to get very high marks by sticking to a shorter story. Running out of time and not finishing will not get you a good enough mark for most schools. DG

An A4 side of good quality writing is worth more marks than pages of low quality, rambling story.
Always answer the question asked (the topic is your question) as many children have the habit of going off in a tangent and losing lots or all of their marks.

Content is more important than sheer length. A page to a page and a half should be fine. [Edited by moderator]
