Times the two numbers outside the brackets and take away the smaller number.

Sorry missed out a letter in the sequence:
1 8 5 11 7 12 7 ()
1+7 = 8 -3 =5
5+6 =11-4=7
7+5= 12-5=7
7+4=11
The first column of adding is decreasing by +1 each time.
The second part of the sum is increasing by -1 each time.[/b]

Another type P has me baffled:
225 64 27 8 ?
The answer is 1 but I'm damned if I can see why.
Can anyone help?

They are the cube numbers backwards
5 cubed [225], 4 cubed [64], 3 cubed [27], 2 cubed [8]
so next number is 1 cubed = 1x1x1 = 1

Surely 5 cubed is 125 not 225? Or am I just stupid.

Yes, it looks like there is an error in the original question.
225 64 27 8 should be 125 64 27 8 ?
