Maths Q help!!

Post by Roz12 »

Hello all

I need some help with the following puzzles:

ABA=3000
CCBCC=2000
DDBDC=1400
DBCA=?

FIND THE DIGIT WHERE:

-THE FIRST DIGIT IS ONE MORE THAT THE SECOND
-THE SECOND DIGIT IS ONE MORE THAN THE THIRD
-THE THIRD DIGIT IS ONE MORE THAN TE FOURTH
-THE FOURTH DIGIT IS ONE MORE THAN THE FIFTH
-THE SUM OF ALL DIGITS IS 35.

SALLY MADE FOUR BRACELETS ON MONDAY, TWICE AS MANY ON TUESDAY AND THEN ONE THIRD OF THE TOTAL MADE ON MONDAY TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY. EMMA MADE TWICE AS MANY BRACELETS AS HER FRIEND. HOW MANY DID THEY MAKE IN TOTAL.

PLEASE HELP WITH EXPLANATIONS

THANKS

Sally made:
4 on Monday
8 on Tuesday (12 so far)
if Wednesday is 1/3 of the total, Monday+ Tuesday (12) must be 2/3 - so 6 on Wednesday.
Total 18

So Emma made 18 x 2 = 36

Total between them = 18+36 = 54

35/5 (no of digits) = 7 therefore 7 is the middle (third) digit. Add / subtract one to find the others.

I don't get the first one. Does it mean "A times B times A = 3000" etc or is it some sort of code? :?

If it is in a table it is probably referring to the sum of the numbers.

From the last line (D+C+B)+A=?
From the line above(D+C+B)+2D=1400
So it is a case of finding the difference between A and 2D

From lines 2 and 3, 3C=3D+600
So C=D+200

From lines 1 and 2, 2A=4C+1000
Substituting for C, 2A=4D+800+1000
So A=2D+900
So the answer is 1400+900=2300

Well that looks likely. Your version of the question Roz was very mystifying indeed!
