BBC4 - The Grammar School - A Secret History

Post by KenR »

Anyone see the 2nd BBC4 programme on "The Grammar School - A Secret History" last night?

Very interesting, particularly some of the perhaps surprising reflections and comments from "famous" ex grammar pupils (e.g. Edwina Currie, Michael Portillo, Michael Wood)

I liked the bit about circulating copies of Chairman Mao's Little Red Book to fellow pupils!

Is this the same two-part series that was shown a year or so ago?

Yes, I think quite a bit more than a year ago - I have a feeling it was out in the Summer of 2012. It made me feel very nostalgic.

Thanks for the heads up on this - I meant to watch the series before, think it was first repeated last year, and was first broadcast early 2012. Unfortunately looks like I'm too late to catch the 1st episode but at least have now seen the second. Got a bit emotional when some of them started crying.

You can catch this on iPlayer too (and yes, it us a repeat of previously shown episodes).

Guest55  are you admitting to having a teensy bit of a celebrity crush?

Here, just for you, looking sizzling:

I had the pleasure of interviewing him in the mid 1980's on my birthday, when he came to do a lecture for our course :D :D Still got it on audio cassette 8) My friend had a h-u-g-e crush on him but the beaten-up leather jacket and jeans didn't work their magic on me, I'm afraid

Yes - I have confessed my 'admiration' for Michael Wood on here before. His original 'In search of the Dark Ages' series first brought him to my attention ...
