Parents moving to Colchester

Post by su1920 »

Since my son has been offered a place at CRGS, I am planning to move to Colchester (as we are out of catchment)and would like to know know if anyone is making a similar move.

I would like to consider the locations where good primary schools are based.

Please let me know ...

Do have a trawl back through previous threads as there has been quite a bit of discussion in the past so no point me repeating it all here!

Briefly - as previously discussed it depends a bit if you want to be walking distance of CRGS and what your budget is - the areas immediately by the school are pretty much the most expensive in Colchester.
Prettygate is slightly cheaper, still walking distance and close to some highly rated primary schools and very popular family area.
Also if you might be wanting non-selective state secondary schools in the future you need to look carefully.

If you are happy for DS to get the bus in to school then your budget will go further but North Station and Lexden Road areas are pretty bad traffic wise in the morning and after-school (Lexden Road) rush so what can seem like a 5 minute drive will be much longer if you join the queue after 8am!

We moved as our son has a place at CRGS for Sept 2014 entry. BTW CRGS does not have a catchment area at all, you could commute from Aberdeen if you wanted to ! We moved 8 weeks ago and are really enjoying Colchester. If you want to PM me then feel free.
