2014 entry waiting list stats

Post by JMW »

Thought I would start this thread to help future years assess the likelihood of getting a re offer from the waiting list and when it might happen. Key dates are first day of summer term when independent school places have to be turned down to avoid financial penalty. Also appeal dates.e.g.we zoomed up the waiting list for ags after the kes appeals but you can also go down as successful appeals leapfrog over you. Waiting list movement very slow this year with not many initial refusals.
We were Initially(after the first 2 weeks) 11th on waiting list for ags and 17th for sggs .
Do other wait listers want to add their stats?

Surely it depends on the year? If everybody who was offered accepted, then there would be very few waiting list offers and vice versa. Future years have to be very clear that the information is really only as good as the year it happened.

On that basis we should ignore AQS from previous years and what about rankings and no of re offers from waiting lists and numbers of successful appeals from previous years etc etc. Of course every year is different but for those trying to work out if they stand a chance on offer day or have the stress and anxiety of being on the waiting list. .past data is all we have to go on..things don't change that much from year to year. I was hoping that this info would give future years an idea of realistically how long it might take to get a place..if at all.

Yes, the AQS changes each year but not hugely. The ranking is the key thing - if a school has 100 places (PAN) and you rank within the top 100 you have a very good chance of being offered a place...regardless of actual score as the AQS is carefully set at around the PAN. Everything else is subject to that year. Obviously the higher up the waiting list you are, the more chance you have of a place. I'm not trying to put a downer on it but am just trying to offer a caveat to future people that what happened last year etc may not happen again. Certainly this year has thrown lots of surprises in various areas where there has been almost no movement on w/lists which is unusual.
