Can a non resident but British citizen take 11 plus??

Post by deepti »

Hi all,

I am new to this . I have always dreamt of my daughter in grammar school. We were in uk for 7 yrs and hold british passports. But due to some reasons we r not in uk right now but may be next year we will come there for exam.

My daughter is born August,2nd 2005. Can she come sit for 11 plus next year though she is non resident?

Thanks everyone.

Not whilst still living abroad, but as soon as you return to the UK you can approach individual grammars in your particular region and discuss either taking late entry 11+ exams or post year-7 entry. Individual grammars usually have their own arrangements.

If you are a service family then different arrangements apply and you can sometimes discuss your particular circumstances in advance of your return to the UK

Thanks Ken.

Sorry to rephrase my question. If we return to uk and take apt by next year April 2015, can we register for 11 plus which I think will be around in July 2015?

And the Gloucestershire one.

But please be careful not to mythologise the idea of a grammar school ('I have always dreamed of..'). I don't know what your alternatives are but it is unlikely that an English grammar school is going to offer you anything stratospherically better than what you would get as a standard education in many countries of the world, without uprooting everyone if that is your plan.

Take care if you are in the US and will be taking verbal reasoning 11+ on your return as there are quite a few vocabulary differences.

Kenr, I know of boys who have taken QE boys from Singapore and girls HBS. They have flown in for the exam and then returned. You are not actually applying for the school when you take the exam. OP, I suggest you contact the schools you are interested in. What school year is your dd currently in? DG
