101 uses for bamboo

Post by Tinkers »

Suggestions please.

I'm hacking back a large area of bamboo in the garden (would keep a panda in food for a week I guess).

I've managed to offload two bundles of bamboo to neighbours so far, but there's loads more.

So, any and all suggestions welcome. (If you live nearby and want some, let me know  )

Pea shooters for the local scout and brownie groups, assuming it is proper bamboo!

Also get largest son on board, dig out lumps with lots of root, pot it up and bung it on the famous auction site. Have a look....I bought a divided plant from there last year....a big grass thing.

It is indeed proper bamboo.

Can I borrow your largest son then please? I don't have one.

Ooooh, when we lived in Singapore mum got the locals to make a room divider out of bamboo. The stalks were set out in a grid and then attached to boxed in seating to allow it to stand upright. Some of the seating had lift up lids for storage. It was good.

Was it sort of woven, or tied together? Freshly cut, it's still quite pliable.

I would love some bamboo in our garden - but DH says no, it will grow too fast for us to maintain (we're hackers, not gardeners :( ) I love the swishy sound of the wind through it.

Don't buy bamboo, down that path lies madness. We didn't plant this. I'll send you an email later with pictures TM.
Bicycle out of bamboo sounds interesting but it looks as though it needs much thicker bamboo than we have. Ours is the sort of size you buy from garden centers to stake plants with.

Given up with the loppers to chop it down. I got me a chainsaw
I will just have far more if it than I know what to do with
