GCSE's in 2015

Post by doodles »

As we return to school next week it seems like only yesterday we were angsting over 11+ results now it's GCSE countdown. I can't believe we've come this far. I think I may need a support thread to get me through it all never mind DS! Anybody with me?

Yep I'm in.

My DS went back to school this week and it seems very full on from the get go!!! Certainly need to be well organised and he's going to have to be more self-disciplined about homework/revision that's for sure.

Me too. For two years in a row! But dd has already done 40% of the English in controlled assessments. DG

Are controlled assessments going or staying? When? I have a year 10 and a year 7. Will it be 100% end of two years exam for either/both?

Can't understand the system anyway, both I and DH are foreign and no relatives here at the right age/stage.

Quite an important change I think, from continuous assessment to single exam, if that's what is happening.

DS1 (yr 11 from next week  ) will be doing final exams only. It's changed for us already; feel sorry for the poor lad as he would certainly have benefited from the modular approach.

Actually Doodles mine were geared up for that anyway. Do you know if schools can allow it even if the rest of the students are following modular courses?

Someone will correct me if I am wrong but I don't think there are any modular exams now. My DS who has just completed his GCSEs was the first year to take exams at the end of the two years plus course work which was all done in school. Good luck to you all I have worked out I have another five years of exams. When this DS ends, his younger brother starts and we have no idea what sort of exams he will be sitting!
