Year 5 - what's your maths homework this week?
My child's maths homework is to revise the 2x, 5x and 10x tables. She was 4c at the end of year 3 and that was not the highest level in the class. That is all the homework there is in any subject. Leaves time to get ready for the 11 plus!

We give half termly investigations. Very open ended.

We haven'tt given any maths homework, only 2 days into term, but we have been quietly assessing and noting how children approach a problem.

Are they new to the school?
Don't you think 2x, 5x and 10x table at the start of year 5 is a little unnecessary as homework unless they have forgotten all their ks1 basics?

Sounds interesting. What would be a good investigation for such a child? I was only familiar with setting gcse level maths investigations.

None last week, as for us school started on Monday 8th, but I would be surprised if this weeks homework was 2,5,10 times tables. I seem to recall that was my other child's homework at some point last year (y2) but I think it might have been on the run up to sats as revision.

Yes, I did wonder if the teacher had forgotten it's a year 4 class.
Thinking back now, there were occasions when my older child was in year 4 and my DH accidentally gave her homework to the year 2 child as that is what it looked like ( 2 x table problems with flowers to count - that kind of thing!). Oh well.

just realise the subject for this thread should be year 4 not year 5!
