Follow up Q for Etienne re oversubsribed school

How do you know if a school is oversubsribed- we are in the Bucks systems- missed by one point- and going to appeal- but how so do we know if they are going to have places if we are successful

Places are not allocated until after appeals end in mid February - so do not worry!!

Dear Missedby1

I'm afraid you don't know. You have to wait for the allocations at the beginning of March. As Guest55 implies, this is a good thing - it means everyone is treated equally, whether qualifying immediately at the 11+ or via a selection appeal.

If successful at selection appeal, at least you are guaranteed a grammar school place as you live in Bucks (though it may not be your preferred school). If your preferred school is oversubscribed, you can ask for a transfer appeal (apply in March, hearings in the summer term).

Hi Missed by 1

If you tell us which school (s) you prefer we can tell you what the "Allocation Profile" was this year, which may give you an indication of how likely it is that you will get a place.

Obviously it is no guarantee, as the situation changes each year, but the size of the cohort is fairly stable, so the information may reassure you somewhat.

RGS High Wycombe and Dr Challaners for boys are the schools we are going for- does the fact that he has got 120 make it harder for him to get into these schools

Hi Missed by 1

No, if your Appeal is successful then he is treated exactly the same as any other child who passed the test in the first place.

Places are allocated according to the Admissions criteria (primarily catchment and distance from school gates) and 11 plus score does not enter into it.
