Registering Child
Hello everyone,
I've just moved from abroad to a lovely place in Berkshire and my child shall be starting up next week.
She has been reading and her maths is above average so I am looking for her to go on to a grammar school.
So how does it all work with regards to the 11 plus?
Do I have to fill in a form for both Berkshire or Buckinghamshire (Burnham Grammar School)?
If so where do I get these from?
Thanks
R

This section might help

Others will know how you actually apply. You only complete one CAF form so I imagine that is through your local authority. Whereabouts are you? Burnham Grammar has a catchment but usually goes out quite a long way, and covers some of Slough too. I hate to out a dampener on but don't assume because your child is bright they will get in - they will be in with a good chance but there are no guarantees!

Re: Registering Child
You need to actively apply for your child to take the Bucks test. Registration will open in May 2015.
You then complete a single CAF (Common Application Form), which you submit to your home Authority, Berks, listing BGS as a preference on it if she has passed the Bucks test or you are submitting a Review or Appeal for a near miss.
There will be other forms for the Berks test/schools.

Is it worth going to an open evening tonight?

Yes! You may not have another chance before the Transfer Test/11+.

There could be more in July and any good school will let you go round on a 'normal' school day if you make an appointment.

Re: Registering Child
I think many of them have moved to the summer term as the 11 plus is now earlier (certainly the place for Burnham Grammar). BGS certainly has open days this term though. I have always found it better to go on a normal school day anyway.
(As OP is interested in BGS - the dates are 14, 15, 16 October 9-1pm)
