Remark after appeal

Post by ahap »

Is it possible to request a paper to be remarked after appealing and failing the appeal. The paper was an English Essay and it was failed by 1%. It was found out at the appeal that only one person marked the paper. Is it too late?

I think it would be up to the responsible body (the admission authority/school/consortium).

Some examples here of the different approaches:

The Candidates have to pass 3 out of 4 papers. The Candidate passed 2 out of 4 papers.

The paper that was failed was by 1%.
However the candidate had got a lower mark on the 4th paper. But that wasn't in the school's criteria. They were supposed to pass only 3 out of 4. With all this the candidates rank is 6th. The school had given places upto the 3rd rank but they have passed all three papers.

In the outcome of the appeal they have stated that 'Whilst they accepted that the candidate had narrowly missed passing the 3rd paper, they were concerned at the lower marking achieved in the fourth paper.'

The appellants after reading the outcome requested the school the lowest mark that was offered a place on that particular subject, and it was only 4% higher than the candidate's.

Is this something that they could take to the EFA?

Not sure I've understood ......

Are you saying
  • • that the criteria were correctly applied by the school,
    • that the parents were appealing against non-qualification,
    • and that panel looked more widely at all the available evidence?
If so, I think an appeal panel would be entitled to weigh up all the academic evidence in determining suitability for grammar school.
