able? talented?

Post by guest1000 »

hi

attended parents evening the other day which went well, but since then have wondered if there was a 'code' being used, which I didn't quite understand:-) are there definitions for the following phrases or does it depend on the school's interpretation or local LEA guidance?

ie child was described as 'able' with a 'talent' for x,y, & z, & is considered 'gifted' in another topic.

Talented is usually sport e.g. David Beckham is a talented footballer'
Gifted usually relates to 'academic' - 'Harriet is a gifted Mathematician'

Definition is top 5-10% in THAT school - hence the problem - Harriet could be gifted in Y6 but not when she goes to GS. Ditto Fred might not be 'labelled' as gifted but go to an Upper in Y6 and suddenly he is!!

And sadly 'G & T' doesn't involve a slice of lemon.
