same score different points?

Post by dinglegirl »

Is it possible due to the way its standardised and weighted that two people with the same marks can get a different score?
DS got
36/60
36/60
302.402 so out by a sniff! Phoned them and they have said any so close to the mark automatically get remarked so just waiting. :(

Not if the same scores were for the same paper ie same score for both people for English and same score for both people for Maths. However it also depends on whether the paper was 1st sitting or second sitting as the weightings will be different for each.

Fingers crossed that they missed 1 mark somewhere when they marked it. Just 1 more mark will be enough to push it over the 303. Hopefully they'll find something in the creative writing bit. Fingers crossed for you.

Are you referring to 20th Sep and 30th Sep batch?

Yes the papers on the 2 dates were different so the weighting for them will be different. A score of 40 on the 20th English paper would not have the same weighting as a score of 40 on the 30th English Paper.

Also with each paper on the same date the weighting will be different, a score of 40 in English will be weighted differently to a score of 40 in Maths. Every individual paper has a different weighting according to it's difficulty and what scores the people who sat it got. There's further explanation on other threads on here about standard deviation it's a complicated calculation.

Great news!

Interesting though because there was another post where someone was told they couldn't ask for a remark.

Maybe its just the borderline Southend 'pass marks' that they will remark ?

Can see it opening a can of worms for appeals......

Fantastic news - interesting that they said the borderline would already have been remarked and then found you enough to go up.
