history
Can anyone remember the rhyme or rules for writing history essays. I love history and did history a level but just cannot remember it, my middle son recently completed a piece of work without backing his ideas up with facts and dates or offering counter arguments, so got an average mark and is in danger of falling out with the subject. I would love him to remember the rules easily. I think I have forgotten the prompts because it became second nature to me, so I expected it of him, but they are of course young children in early learning days.
Thank you
Thank you

Re: history
I've got a history degree and I'd love to know too, particularly as DS1 seems to be following suit! I'm helping out at school now, so I'll see if any of the teachers know of it.

Re: history
Funnily, my yr 7 DS got a surprisingly low mark ( with a warning) in his class a few weeks ago for his history essay because he hadn't bothered to use a method to explain his findings called P-E-E ( Point, Evidence, Explanation). It was Greek to me, but he said they'd been using it in school for essays "since yr 5, duh."
Could that be it?

Re: history
P-E-E-L is another - Point, Evidence (Example), Explain, Link is a GCSE approach.

Is it NOPE, SB3?
Nature of the source - is it a diary or map, or legal doc etc
Origin of source - who wrote it, where.
Purpose of source - personal diary, advert etc
Evaluation of the source - is it biased, primary or secondary?

That's it, Fatbananas! This last weekend DS was spouting out all of the above to OH, it went over my head, but a couple of keywords stuck - type of source, etc.
I've learnt something new today. Thanks!
Re: history
My ds uses PEE which causes them much mirth, but I guess that's 11 year old boys for you

Missed this, thank you guys, it was (nope).....Well done, I will type it up, laminate it and staple it to his arm. he will have no reason to believe he can use the storyline from an episode of cadfael or similar and site it as pure fact now.
Thank you everyone.
