English Test Essay

My son will have to write a 45 minute essay on a given topic. Does anyone know how these are marked and what exactly the examiners are looking for?

They are usually in line with the national curicullum for KS2.
Ususally they are looking for a level 5 from what I know.

Take a look at the qca website and it should have the standards in there.
Alternatively, the higher level workbooks and higher level SATS papers are usually a good indication.

There are the obvious things like good grammar and punctuation, but it is best to look at past papers from the school in question.
