Bond Papers and Kent?

Post by VanillaLatte »

Are Bond papers included in the preparation for Kent test? When looking at the topics it only says NFER? Any comments from parents whose children passed this years are greatly welcomed, thank you.

Most people seem to have used bond, GL and a mixture of other publishers.

We started with the Bond books around 8 months before, doing the 10 minute tests so that DS became familiar with the subjects and types of questions. We then moved onto the GL practice papers around 2 months before the actual test, doing 1 hour every day through the summer, we also used some other papers, but not Bond. Worked for us and DS passed.

Since no supported from school,we used Bond 10mins tests and collins(maths only) when he was in Year 4. We moved to Bond Assessments (about 20 questions each day without counting time) after last year X'mas. We moved to GL papers in Auguest. We let him to do 1 paper a day and gradually counted the time.

Like others we used Bond papers and Bond 10 minute Papers as a solid introduction to the subjects, and then moved on to the GL Papers during the summer. Also used the BOFA online site which was good as it provides feedback and explanations(and wasn't that expensive).

DS passed comfortably thankfully. :D

We don't know what the test will be in 2015 or 2016. The current contract was for one year for the 2014 test with an option to renew. You would need to keep on asking the local authority repeatedly to find out if they have made any decisions yet about 2015.

So it could be another variation on GL, or it could be CEM --- or any other test publisher that throws their hat into the ring if they go out to the market again.

Email sent to Roger Gough, KCC Education Cabinet member, on this subject included:
I and many parents of Year 5 students are wondering what KCC's timetable is for reviewing GL Assessment's performance in the provision of the new format Test this year and re-tendering (if required) for next year's Test...Would it be possible for some indication to be posted on the KCC website or to go out in a press release... [re:] when the cabinet/department plans to evaluate this year's Test and when it predicts being able to confirm arrangements for next year?
Response on Mr Gough's behalf earlier this month:
We will be publishing information about the tests in advance of registration next June. We will be carrying out an internal review of the process around the new Kent Test once the process has completed (I.e. once pupils have their results).
I did try!
