Recipe for Fruit Cocktail
1 part lime juice
2 parts sugar syrup
5 parts fruit puree
4 parts soda water

I have a bottle each of lime juice, sugar syrup and soda water, but only 45cl of fruit puree.

How much fruit cocktail can I make?

You have the least amount of fruit puree available so you will use all of that - 45cl. (45 x 5/5)

So the amount of lime juice required is 45 x 1/5= 9cl
the amount of suar syrup is 45 x 2/5=18cl
the amount of soda water is 45 x 4/5= 36cl

Therefore adding these together you get 108cl

You now know that 45ml is 5 parts so to find one part you need to work out 45 divided by 5 which is 9ml. Once you know what one part if the rest of the equation is straight forward with you just needing to add up all the various parts in the recipe. Good Luck.

Wouldn't be easier to say you have 9 lots of fruit puree so altogether you would have 9 lots of the total of 12parts which is 108. This avoids lots of fraction work and is quicker.
