Whitgift sample 11+ Maths papers answers
Hi All
could someone please kindly help with the following answers to the Maths sample questions

Question is in 2 parts
1.Groups a,b and c
18 and 19
heres questions and answer to 18.
To go and watch a film at the cinema, the seats cost £3 each for a child and £7 each for an adult. I was charged £51 for all of the seats I bought.
(a) Did I buy more than 7 adult tickets?
(b) If there were more adult tickets than child tickets, how many of each did I buy?
(c) If there were more child tickets than adult tickets, how many of each did I buy?
please confirm we are correct
a) no
b)6 adults and 3 child
c)3 adults and 10 child

2. Group B and C
Questions 8,9 and 10

(a) How much does 7 adult tickets cost?
(b) what combinations give £51 as a cost? Try some numbers
(c) ditto
Sorry haven't got time to look up the questions. If you post them I'll give more hints.

OK thanks but sorry am unable to copy and paste the ones with a diagram which to be honest are the ones i really need help with.

9. A box of kiddimix contains 20 chocolates of which 8 are plain chocolates and 12 are milk chocolates. If 16 of the 20 have soft-centres, what can you say about how many plain chocolates there are with soft-centres

SO only 4 don't have soft centres ... those four could be either plain or milk.
But at least 4 of the plain must be soft centred ... does that make sense?

Great . well explained.
This is what my daughter wrote
All the plain chocolates could be soft centre. what do you think? is that the same as your answer or is yours more correct English?

19 - I got one quarter. Not sure how to explain it as I tried two ways to check.
Triangle CMD if all shaded would be half x side x side = half square
subtract triangle COD = half side x half side = quarter square
half - quarter = quarter of the square.
You can do it by drawing but I can't show that ....

The soft centres one - I think they are looking for the fact you know at least four MUST be. Yes they all could be but you cannot know that for sure ....
