Is Guessing Good?

Post by fingerscrossed4 »

I was wondering if it is a good idea to guess answers if the child is not sure and also if they are running out of time. Will this count against them? Do they take into account the number of questions answered vs the number correct or just the total number of correct answers no matter how many have been attempted?

Guessing is good. The score is purely based on the number of correct answers.

Yep it is good as can make a difference between getting a place or not. Best thing is eliminate the obviously wrong options, then guess between the 2 most likely correct options. I tell my DS this as why leave questions unanswered when you can guess and get some right. Nothing to lose.

I agree. And I have also told my DC to mark on the question paper which questions they have guessed so that they can go back at the end if they have time to review the answers.
Another reason for making a guess if necessary is that If a child doesn't put an answer in for every question there is also a risk of getting out of step on the answer sheet.
