Thick envelope or thin envelope?

I think I won't even go downstairs unless there is a proper *thunk* on the doormat .

Last year, St Helen's offers came in an A5 sized envelope.

Anyone have a sense if this year is more competitive than last? My DD has received offers for St Margaret's and RMS and is waiting for St Helen's and Habs. RMS letter said this year they have lots of girls on the waiting and asked for people to accept or decline their places as soon as possible. I wonder if that means the standard will have risen sharply at all schools not just the ultra academic/prestigious? I am at work so can hardly concentrate at the thought that the envelope (thick or thin as it may be) is sitting on my doormat! Is it too early for a glass of wine?
