calligraphy
dd is desparate to learn calligraphy writing. She loves drawing and colouring as such and has had a bit of an introduction to calligraphy last summer via books. But because she is serious about it, I am wondering if there are any short classes out there in the West Midlands area. Have tried the master know all Google but comes up with loads of hits, mainly for adults.
I posted it here, because it is not 11+ related.
thanks guys, for any insight.

Re: calligraphy
Have a look on Pinterest, there are lots of exercises and project ideas. More than a class I think lots of practice is the key.
Re: calligraphy
I taught myself italic calligraphy when I was about 13. Went from ordinary to italic in a few weeks and after month or so totally habit. Try Pinterest or youtube, but I learnt by just 'turning pen almost sideways '
Re: calligraphy
You can buy calligraphy kits cheap enough. They vary, but can contain differing thicknesses of nibs, a pen and exercise books showing how to form the letters.
Google, you should be able to find some easily enough

Try your library.
These are old, but I found them helpful when I was learning:
Italic Calligraphy by LLoyd Reynolds
Anything by George L Thomson
Anything by Rosemary Sassoon
Calligraphy pens by Lamy or Rotring have a nice balance.
To be good at calligraphy, you need correct letter formation, patience and practice. Good luck to your DD.

Re: calligraphy
In the past I have seen Calligraphy pen sets in places like The Works so worth looking - last time they were down the back of the shop near the art type stuff. I was taught Calligraphy at school - we had to do two lessons of handwriting each week - the key to learning is practice and, I would suggest, a good fountain pen, (or specialist calligraphy pen), as that helps with the letter formation.
