Commute From Uxbridge to Royal Grammer School High Wycombe

Post by Hasan32 »

Hi, My DS got an offer in RGS. As we live in Uxbridge, can anyone suggest me the best possible way to commute to the school or even car share or any idea? Much appreciated your suggestion.

Well, 20 miles by road - I would allow well over an hour in rush hour, with a minimum of 30 minutes with no traffic. Public transport (a couple of buses, or bus then train, then walk), would take at least an hour and a half. The school might be able to tell you if there is anyone else local you could pair up with, but it would still be a couple of hours commuting every day. Unusual to get RGS from so far away, so I'd be surprised. Did you have a plan when you applied?

Here we go again. Don't people ever consider the viability of travel options?

As another poster has said, it's a lengthy journey however it's undertaken.

RGS went to almost 17 miles (straight line distance) this year, the furthest extent ever in Sally-Anne's cobwebby records.

In 2008 the school went to over 18 miles (driving distance, so not as far), but boarding places were undersubscribed and some were converted to day places, so that explained the much wider allocation that year.

Hasan32, although I congratulate your son on his success, I don't think the journey to Wycombe is really sustainable over 7 years.

The traffic in Wycombe each morning is dreadful, particularly leading off the M40 (the infamous Handy Cross roundabout), so you need to think again, either about school choices or about your family's location.

Uxbridge to Harrow-on-the-Hill (Met line), then Chiltern Line (mainline) to High Wycombe.

That's the only public transport option I can see. Means going in, then out, which feels like retrograde step. Can't comment on the walk at either end.

Could be pricey, too.

RGS is quite a walk up a steep hill from the station from what I remember.

Sorry but it's driving me mad: per-lease could people remember to spell "Grammar" correctly? It doesn't take a huge amount of effort to put the second "a" in.
