You can also get something in Sutton as well.
There are trains from Sutton to Wallington / Waddon BR

Thanks. I should have clarified my question. Properties are very expensive in sutton/wallington (nearly areas). Am looking at houses around coulsdon and redhill though not sure if these are commutable? Any real experience will be appreciated? Also, how are other people, if any, managing from 5 miles distance from south?

Coulsdon, that could present some challenge in terms of travel to Wilson, Public transport quite sparse in that part

Redhill doesn't have good links to the borough either. What about Purley and Croydon/Sutton borders? have you checked these out?

5 miles south of Wilson's would put you around Whyteleafe area. Housing here is cheaper than Croydon/South Croydon, but I don't know how it compares with Sutton, Wallington, Carshalton. Driving to Wilson's from Whyteleafe would probably take around half an hour to 45 minutes in rush hour traffic. It's 2 or 3 buses and probably an hour to an hour and a half by public transport. I personally wouldn't want to do it.

Redhill would be impossible to commute from IMHO. You can do it with a train and two buses. Or a train a 5-10 minute walk and another bus. But again I think this would be over an hour and I doubt there would be many others coming from this area, so he might not have many - if any - local friends.

Coulsdon is quite reasonable for public transport. It's a 2 bus journey that takes about 30-40 minutes.

You can find more reasonably priced housing in Beddington, Hackbridge and Waddon, which are close to Wallington.

Thanks newdud, Catlady and ShrimpStation for your response. Looking into all the alternatives it seems that seeing traffic in sutton/wallington area we cannot stay too far. As you suggested ShrimpStation will look into beddigton and Waddon.

Might be worth having a look at the 154 bus route. Stops outside the door of Wilson's and runs every 10 mins or so . Starts in Morden which is quite a way from the school so wouldn't recommend but passes through Rose Hill and Carshalton ( which has pricey bits and cheaper areas) then on through Wallington to the school. It's packed with Wilson's boys at the beginning and end of the day.
Members of the SLT stand with the boys at the bus stops outside the school in the afternoon and makes sure they all get on the bus okay.
The buses are free but train has to be paid for.
Well done to your son and good luck with the move.
