Hi,
I'm in Winchmore Hill, North London. Where is the best place in this forum to find a tutor for GCSE maths for my DD?
Thanks

Have you spoken yo school? There may be additional classes for those who are struggling. We also found when my ds1 was struggling conversations with the teachers often led to helpful suggestions about additional things he could do plus offers of support at break and after school. I must say I was very impressed with the amount of support offered during gcses and how freely it was offered. I would speak to the school in the first instance, even in the subject my ds seemed to be consistently failing we did not get a tutor and he managed an A by going over past papers and understanding the mark schemes.
NB - I live in your area and my ds went to one of the poorest performing schools, so I can imagine if you speak to your DD's school there will be plenty on offer.

Before shelling out for a tutor, also try something like BBC Bitesize; she can go through topics at her own pace, going over KS3 basics if she needs a refresher .

Thanks, Copella and Toadmum.
I'm not happy with the school entirely, she is a bright child in a fairly average comprehensive school,to be honest she is doing well on the whole but is finding Maths more of a challenge rather than a piece of cake as she has always found it to be! The school has let me down a number of times on other things so I am not hopeful they can offer the extra help. I may still ask though. She is pretty much in the top 5 within Maths top set but she is telling me more and more that its becoming a struggle so its just a little boost that she needs really.

Sammz I think you should have a word with her teachers, with maths sometimes just a couple of extra lessons outside of class helps if they are stuck. Ds2 after always finding maths easy struggled in y8. The pace was too fast for him. This year with a different teacher he is back on top. So it could also be the teaching style. Don't Rush to get a tutor until you get to grips with her problems. Also try some internet sites such as Toadmum suggested and look at Hegarty maths, which is designed by a maths teacher. Best of luck.
