SET format

Post by mags18 »

The official description of the information provided is 'The content of the Maths and English tests is based on the Key Stage 2 curriculum.'
However if one explore you get to hear about reference to 'GL' , 'CEM' style exams for Maths and English.
Can anymore explain what is the difference between these format and can the format of actual exam be expected a combination of these format or different ?

Also if last year parents can share their experience if the mock test format being provided by ,say Sutton Mock were similar to actual SET held in Sep last yr ?

Just trying to get my DS focus as we are getting close...

Have a look at the KS2 L6 paper for Math and English.
That should provide you with a good guide to the SET paper format and style.

The Sutton GS do not follow CEM or GL as such, IMHO.

For English your DS will need a understanding of wide range of vocabulary. There will be questions in the paper that ask antonym / synonym for words / terms that are quite complex.

Maths tend to be more straight forward.

BUT, for both papers he will be up against the clock, this is by design. He will need to be quick and accurate. Lot of children coming from state primary fail because they have never sat an exam in exam condition.
