World English gcse

Post by Azure »

Hello ds GS offers G&T kids GCSE in World English as well as ordinary 2 English exams? I never heard of this. Is it good to get? Is it hard? Do universities or 6th forms like it?

Thank you :D

There is no need to do extra GCSEs - aim for as many top grades not quantity of grades.

Unis look for A*/A grades or 8/9 as it will be.

Kid who get 11 '9's more likely picked than kid who get 9 '9's?

No, Azure...most Universities look at the students top 8 Grade GCSEs - including Maths English and Science usually (so if they do 11, they are likely to disregard 3 of them entirely). What Guest55 is saying is that it is more beneficial for children to study less subjects and get better grades in the ones they study than doing lots and risking getting the top grades in them. Currently the top grade is an A* but for children in Y9 currently, their Maths and English GCSE will be numerically graded with 9 being the very top grade achievable.

some places look at the top 8 GCSEs or whatever. 9 is plenty

Anyway, reckon they should do Proper English like what we do.

Google doesn't throw up any results for this, so I think there must be some confusion.

No - it won't be of interest to unis as they already study English Literature.

Part of my role is supporting UCAS and additional GCSEs are really not advised (nor early entry).
