Very interesting program - saw the 1st part last week.
Thought the part about Roy Strong being inspired and supported by his grammar school history teacher and dedicating his first book to her was very moving. Also Neil Kinnock and Edwina Currie very nearly not making it to university (and politics) because of peer pressures to get into work at 16.
Sadly I also remember now how appalling secondary modern schools were in the 60s for 80% for the majority.

I remember the peer pressure well. Only 40 out of the 210 in my year from a state comprehensive in the 1970's stayed on for sixth form and every single one of my friends did not. DG
