18th Birthday present!

Post by honscupboard »

Hi
We have several (!) family and friends, boys and girls who will be 18 in the next few months, and I am struggling to come up with present ideas! My daughter says that no one wants the "keepsake " type of presents we were given, but I would like to mark such a special event with something a bit more special than my usual vouchers! Anyone got any bright ideas? :D

How about something that goes with an interest? If they like cooking a really nice knife; theatre vouchers for the arty reader; match tickets for the sporty one; a pen for the scribbler.

Sometimes an experience is just as nice a keepsake as a tankard!!

A young persons railcard would be practical especially if off to uni soon.

The idea of really good kitchen stuff for someone who likes to cook and might ge off to uni could be a big hit.

Or a classic cook book - from basics to entertaining inc cuts of meat etc. Lots available on web these days but still good to have a 'standard' on the shelf.

We also found in several cases either the young person or parent was 'collecting' for something bigger. At least they then got something they wanted.
