My dd keeps getting 5 but the answer sheet says its wrong.
Question 33 - graph has no info on it. Is this correct.
Question 44 - there are 27 children in a club
Which of these statements cannot be true?
There are more boys than girls in the club?

I cannot help you with questions which require reference to the paper but here is what I think you should do for the others.

Ravi divides a large number by smaller number. The remainder is 5. Which of these numbers could he have divided by? 2,3,4,5,6

You need to investigate how your dd is arriving at 5! Look at each of the numbers and think if it is possible to arrive at a remainder of 5. Do some mock divisions and the answer and method will reveal itself.

Question 44. The only help I can give you without giving you the answer is to consider the following. There are two brothers. Their combined age is 24. The elder one is 4 years older. What are their ages? Once you have cracked the method, the rest should follow.

For Q16, I would get a number of buttons, or Lego bricks or Smarties, Put say 11 in front of your daughter and get her to divide by 2 by taking groups of 2 out. Keep counting how many remain when she takes out each group of 2. When she has 3 groups of 2 and 5 remaining, ask her if she can take out another group of 2? Could dividing by 2 ever leave her with 5? Have lots of goes; vary the number you start with and then vary the number you take out. What happens when she divides a multiple of 5 (Say 15) into groups of 5? Thy the same then with starting from 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20.

Question 44 is to do with odd and even numbers. Try getting her to answer these questions:
What happens when you add an odd and an even number? an odd and an odd? an even and an even?
Then write out the numbers 1 to say 12 and get her to consider the following: If you go from any even number to any odd number (say 4 to 9) is the number of steps you take even or odd? Will that always be the case? Try the same with even to even, then odd to odd.
Now back to the question. What can she say about the two numbers that add to 27? What can she say about the gap between them?

We are stuck on Q13 and Q33 as well :(

Q13:
There is no data on Mrs Woods order form!
Q33:
There is no journey times on the table to work out the mean.

Was wondering if it a printing error. Could someone kindly verify?

Thanks

hi,

My DD solved no 13 in the following way....

she added up all the amounts i.e. £12 + £28 + £3 = £43

Then she subtracted that from £58 which is the total cost

i.e. £58 - £43= £15

price of one science book is £3
divide £15 by £3= 5 books

Hope this helps....
Thanks
