Bewildered,
As soon as I saw the dates I thought of you, waiting for one result and planning for another. Double turmoil.
Just checked Reading Borough can see no changes
http://www.reading.gov.uk/Documents/edu ... 3-1-08.pdf
This is the document that disappears, includes the timeline,
Secondary and Primary Schools informed of final allocation
23 February 2009.
So they know before you, avoid eye contact with Head Teachers in the week before results.

Just to clarify for all, spoke to administration today and she said it is and/or. i.e. VR or NVR or could be a Combination of both.Nature of tests
There will be three tests each of length approximately one hour.
The tests will cover:
* Reasoning [verbal and/or non-verbal(abstract)]
* English
* Mathematics
The tests will build on current good practice adopted in primary schools and will be tests for which no additional preparation is necessary.
No past papers are available and no further information with respect to the tests will be given. Results for day places will be issued by the L.A. on 2 March 2009.
The English will now only be a single M/C test. No written test.
They have also reduced the traveling time to school, to 40mins max.
Other info that may be of interest is that last year 517 children sat for the 100 available day places.

Reading grammars admission 2009
stevew61 & Bewildered,
Thanks to you two veteran contributors, I'm now wiser w.r.t. the RBS requirements, especially regarding the English paper.
From my earlier discussion thread to Queenma re Tutors for Kendrick Grammar, I'll be looking to start working with my DS on his 2009 RBS exam prep with some mental agility exercises later this month.
The challenge for me this time round is quite different to what I've experienced with my DD's Kendrick exams. My DS probably has a higher raw IQ than my DD (who's got through to Kendrick this year) but I feel that the RBS entrance exam format slightly discriminates those with high IQ but who're less familiar with M/C maths and English comprehension exercises.
What's your view?

Have a look at some of the earlier info. on the content of Reading exam.deontological wrote: The challenge for me this time round is quite different to what I've experienced with my DD's Kendrick exams. Most people think the standard of competition for Kendrick is higher, having no designated area.
The maths paper (by eleven plus standards in other area's) is regarded as not to challenging
The English is a bit time pressured being 65 questions in 45 minutes?
The VR or NVR, less stressful than Kendrick being "fairly" standard NFER types, so VR mostly the standard 21 question types.
Exam technique, using the question and answer sheets and keeping in sync. is an issue, we all experience an answer sheet that gets out of sync.
Three papers in one day is a test in itself, thank goodness they have dropped the essay!
My experience is from the 2006 exam, BW is more up to date having experience of 2007 and 2008. I am doing some gentle preparation for DS2 in 2010, if we get that far!
Exam content from previous years is on many threads.

Reading do not publish guidelines so they could change the content without notice, have been a couple of surprise sections on the English paper over the last few years, nothing to demanding.
Good luck for November 2009 let us know how it goes.

stevew61, thanks for your tips and the thread . I'll look into it and see if I can be persuaded that the RBS exams is not discriminating anybody afterall .stevew61 wrote:Exam content from previous years is on many threads.
