Can someone tell me how CSSE standardise their scores?

Have a look at 'Blitz''s post referring to this topic on page 7.

If 'Aang' is feeling kind, and the CSSE people are as helpful as they have been over the past few years, perhaps something similar will appear for thisr year's results in due course

I think Aang usually gives the office a few days' peace after results day before asking - they are likely to be a bit busy at the moment, one would imagine. If you are asking, you also need the standard deviation for each paper (and the total number of candidates would be useful). I would wait a bit, though...

Thanks. According to the guidance scores sheet on another post we might have made it, not definite though. So finger crossed!

For all those who are interested I have posted below this year's CSSE mean scores and standard deviation figures.

English: Mean score (out of 60) =30.4783, Standard Deviation = 9.2468
Maths: Mean score =35.9650 (out of 60), Standard Deviation = 12.7833

Interesting .... Where did you get this data from the CSSE office ? Do you know the number of pupils taking the CSSE test this year ?

Interesting. So despite lots of DC declaring the papers were easy, the raw mean marks are significantly lower than last year. Implying that either the papers were actually harder, or the cohort weaker.

Not really, because that is something that standardisation addresses. Cut-offs depend mainly on numbers applying - and who applies. For example, if no-one with a score below 320 applies to a school, but all the places are filled, then the cut-off is 320+. Or if a school has a full spectrum of applications but is much more popular one year for some reason, the cut-off will be higher that year. The cut-off is just the score of the last person in, whereas the minimum qualifying mark is still 303 (for Southend and Westcliff schools, anyway).
