Thanks for the info Blitz. Looks like with a score of 364.65 we are in the green zone for CRGS and amber for KEGS out of catchment.
I was going to put down KEGS as our first choice though! Are amber scores more likely to be on the waiting list ?

It all depends on who else applies and what scores they have, sometimes the amber scores get in on offer day. It depends on whether or not it was a high scoring year overall. If you prefer KEGS put that 1st and put CRGS 2nd. Then if you don't quite make KEGS on offer day you will be offered CRGS and will be put on the waiting list for KEGS. The list moves a fair amount over the 1st few weeks after offer day so you could then be offered KEGS.

Yes, good point. And I heard that ColCHSG was increasing the places from 140 to 160 this year, for 2016 entry - so does the 2016 historical guidance sheet take that into account? I don't think it does since it's historical .

DD thinks the current year 7 has 160 at ColCHS, so yes. The small print at the bottom of the guidance sheet states " all figures assume that current admission numbers had been in place for the last four years"

I'm hoping this is a positive for us. Dd got 348 and is hoping for colchs. As we live in Colchester it's really the only grammar we have choice of.

ColCHS has 5 classes of 28 = 140 in the current year 8. The current year 7 has 5 x 30 = 150. Year 9 to 11 have 4 x 28 =112. I assume that has been taken account of in the stats.

Under the old system, with an entry of 112 the lowest mark to get in was around 330 (not sure if that was on offer day or not).

The year of the first increase in PAN, the school said they didn't expect the mark required to reduce by more than a couple of marks. This was indeed the case, it was around 328. The current year 7 appear to have had a much lower cut off, around 322.

I would have thought a mark over 330 is likely to get a place at Colchs and a mark over 340 at CRGS, maybe a little lower now at CRGS with the increase in PAN there too.

Oh, I stand corrected, DD thought year 7 at ColCHS was 5 classes of 32.
CRGS was about 336 last year with the increased numbers.

you made me wonder Minesatea, so I've just trawled by old emails to find the school letter. It was announced in the chair of governors letter at the end of May, which say an extra 2 per form. I've now checked the admission policy and it does say PAN is 160! so the change in 2014 must have been an extra form and an extra 2 per form, and then from 2015 further 2 per form. My DD1 says it is very cramped now, the classrooms were small for 28...

I wonder if that late announcement of the extra 10 places for Yr 7 2015 is the reason the cut off score fell so much between 2014 entry (around 327) and 2015. There must have been more than 10 girls with scores within a couple of marks of 327, so perhaps people with marks under 327/8 did not apply based on the published PAN at the time and the 2014 cut off having fallen by just 2 or 3 marks despite an extra class of 28.

If that is the case, then the cut off is likely to be higher this year, perhaps around 327.
