Kent Test 2015 Raw pass marks

Post by Heleneric »

Well done to all the DD's and DS's who passed the Kent Test this year and commiserations to those who missed out.

This year the overall pass mark for the test was 320 with a minimum score of 106 for each section: Maths, English and Reasoning.

I'd like to know what the pass mark was for each section in terms of the raw scores, i.e. how many questions were there in each section and what was the minimum number of questions a child needed to answer correctly in order to pass that section and achieve a score of 106?

All information gratefully received.

What age is your DD Kentmum? Think it helps with the standardisation. For info, here are ours:

English 16/24 = 115
Maths 17/25 = 125
Reasoning 62/80 = 133

373 overall - she's a July birthday so was 10 yrs 2 months when she took the test.

When were you given the raw scores? I emailed my request last week but received a reply from KCC saying that as they weren't priority I would get a response later on in the month?

I don't know if these are raw or standardised but Kent (not school head) gave me the following, DD being 10 and 5 months at time of test:

English 121 18/24
Maths 121 16/25
Reasoning 124 55/80

Aggregate score 366/420

This was after a delay of over 40 minutes letting jitters set in an not being able to go to the toilet at break time due to not enough toilet facilities at an all boys venue. DD did better in the other tests she sat so we know the problems on the day at the Kent test caused her to be out of sorts but fortunately don't need to make a big deal of it due to good results elsewhere. Not a stealth boast by the way but more a factual, our kids are human and not robotic, subject to their surroundings, type comment. Also might be of help to anyone else who was borderline and needs to think about reasons their DC didn't do as well as they were capable of.

Well done to you and your daughter. The 11+ is so tough in that way. Most children only get one go. However, being OOC gives you the opportunity to take more than one test and this can be an advantage as children perform differently depending on the type of test or their test environment.
The results you are quoting are both. First you get the standardised scores and then the raw scores. For example, your daughter got 18 right out of the 24 English questions. The maximum standardised English score was 138 this year and 141 for Maths and Reasoning.
So, 6 questions in English cost your daughter 17 marks.

Thanks Salsa, a mine of information as always! I think DD got all the questions but one right in Maths that she answered. I won't say why as I gather the test may still be used by others later, but others who sat the test will probably know what I mean!
